Traditional Chinese Medicine uses acupuncture as a means to balance your body’s regulatory function. When your body’s regulation system is not functioning properly, the body reflects it in both our physical and mental well being. In order to restore balance and health, thin needles are placed at points that are known to regulate your body, known as acupuncture points. When these specific points are regulated, your body becomes more balanced, your body begins to heal over time, symptoms start to be eliminated, and whole-body health is restored.
Each of our acupuncturists hold a Masters degree in either Acupuncture (MA) or—in addition to acupuncture—they have studied Chinese Herbal Formulas, in which they hold a degree in Oriental Medicine (OM). While obtaining their degrees, they are trained to treat all ailments and are considered general practitioners. Although our practitioners can treat all ailments, each is trained in a focused area, making them a specialist in their field.
Specialized Acupuncture for Specific Symptoms
Pain Management for Active Lifestyles
The success of acupuncture in treating pain is widely known. The how and why is quite simple, with no mystery surrounding it. Acupuncture needles are inserted into tight muscles that are not working properly, which releases the tight muscle or sore joint in the area. Once the area is relaxed, blood flow can return to the muscle and take pressure of the joint, allowing the patient to heal.
Lisa Glasser L.Ac., a pain management specialist at Well Balanced, has over 10 years of experience treating acute and chronic pain through acupuncture and has been named one of Eugene’s Top Doctors. The key to her success has been finding the root cause of a patient’s symptom, assessing an effective treatment plan, and accurately educating her patients on how to not only get better, faster, but also how to ward off pain with a daily self-care routine.
Your initial treatment with Lisa will cover your medical history and what led up to your main health concern. She will then assess the muscles and joints around the area of concern, testing each muscle to see that it is functioning at 100% capacity. Each muscle that is not 100% will be treated in order to be restored to its full function. Lisa will then give you corrective exercises to keep the muscle at 100%, through a process of reprograming muscle memory.
This process of getting your muscles to be 100% doesn’t happen in one treatment. In fact, it is reported that in order for a muscle’s memory to permanently change, it takes 3000 reps of an exercise. Lisa refers her patients to her Well Balanced team members like Dr. Devin DeGreif, PT and Dr. Jacob McNair, DC, whenever it is needed in order to get you better, faster!
Acupuncture is widely known for treating pain effectively. In fact, over 10 million Americans a year receive acupuncture for pain relief.
Jesse Liberty, L.Ac., a pain management specialist at Well Balanced, has years of experience treating acute and chronic pain through acupuncture and its accompanying modalities.
Jesse uses modalities such as electro-stimulation, cupping, and heat therapy to release local muscle tension, allowing energy and blood to flow freely, easing your symptoms of pain. He not only focuses on the local areas of pain, but also takes a systemic approach to your wellness, incorporating distal points that help relieve mental and physical stress, nourish the body, and give you more energy while at the same time making you feel more relaxed.
Jesse refers his patients to Well Balanced massage therapists for further pain relief and relaxation in addition to acupuncture. Once tension and pain in the body has improved, he refers his patients to physical therapy and/or chiropractic care to keep you strong and functioning properly.
Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, Digestion
All of these main complaints—anxiety, depression, insomnia, digestive issues—may not seem like they have anything in common at first glance. However, when we look at the root cause of all of them, the commonality lies in how your body regulates internal and external stressors. Over time, our bodies react to stress, either from internal causes such as food sensitivities or external factors such as overwork and environmental sensitivities. When the body is overwhelmed by these stressors, symptoms begin to evolve over time until they become so apparent you can no longer ignore them.
Dr. Courtney Connell, L.Ac. specializes in getting to the root of our symptoms and treating them through acupuncture, herbs, and daily lifestyle recommendations. Your first treatment with Courtney is an in-depth analysis of your health history and how it effects your current symptoms. Based on all of your bodily symptoms, not just your main complaint, he will treat your body as a whole and come up with a treatment plan. Chinese Medicine is the grandfather of the theory of finding the root of a symptom and not just treating the symptom.
Courtney works closely with Dr. Jacob McNair at Well Balanced, who specializes in Functional Medicine. The effects of acupuncture’s body restoration and functional medicine’s dietary properties are both examples of integrated care at its best.
Reproductive and Sexual Health
Acupuncture is extremely effective in treating infertility and sexual health. These symptoms can range from everything from an inability to conceive, PMS, erectile dysfunction, pain during sex to menopause symptoms and prolapsed organs.
Along with herbs, acupuncture has the ability to normalize hormone levels that often play a part in fertility and sexual health. In addition to hormones, tight musculature is also a cause that is effectively treated through acupuncture’s ability to release muscles and restore blood flow in organs.
Dr. Courtney Connell, L.Ac. is the Infertility and Sexual Health Specialist at Well Balanced.
